Shepton Mallet’s historic Friday Market is recognised as being as much a social occasion as an opportunity to make purchases, and a group of our residents from St Cecilia Care Home were keen to make the most of that on a recent visit.

Deputy manager Lauren Heard who accompanied the group on their outing said: “It was a lovely morning and our residents were very happy to be able to enjoy the sunshine while they explored the goods for sale.

“The Shambles really comes alive when the market is on, and they enjoyed chatting with the stall-holders as well as examining the cakes and fruit for sale and deciding what they wanted to buy.”

The residents at St Cecilia enjoy making the most of their links with the local community in other ways too, such as a recent end-of-term visit by pupils from Shepton Mallet’s St Pauls CofE VC Junior School.

Lauren said: “They treated our residents to a spectacular show of singing and dancing, which went down a wow! We were all so impressed by their performance, and we look forward to welcoming them back again when the new academic year begins.”
